Harry’s ferrets
Lucy pictured here with her play mate Susie, is the mother of Zach , one of the litter born to her in 2005. Fred and I collected her and 3 other ferrets when he felt he needed to get new blood in his stock .
She was mated with another polecat and produced 5 kits  pictured as the litter of 2005. I mentioned to Fred I liked her and he told me she was mine.
When Beefy became ill and had to be put down, I brought her home, and after a short time to acclimatise, introduced her to Susie and watched as they galloped about the floor.
Being a mature ferret and in season, I took her to my vet for a “Jill jab”, my vet was  apologetic on the cost of the injection, but the quantity needed was ½ ml for a ferret, but the minimum quantity that could be ordered was 20 ml. I knew that normally  ferret keepers have groups of Jill's treated at the same time and splitting the cost and the vet had nothing to apologise for. Ten days after treatment she should be out of season, negating the possibility of osteoporosis caused by prolonged oestrus cycle.    My intention is for her to be spayed and following the vets advice this will be carried out later in the year to allow any bone
Lucy's tale
LUCY KILLED BY A FOX
On the morning of 19 June 2010 I heard screams in the garden, thinking it was foxes being a usual nuisance I ignored it, but decided to get out of bed.
I went out to the ferret’s cages and saw Lucy’s body on the lawn and a fox in the garden which I drove away. There was signs of a lot of activity, broken plants and digging, especially at the base of the greenhouse water butts. Checking the cages I saw how the fox had broken into the sleeping quarters of Lucy and Grace’s cage; Grace was missing, so I assumed she had been carried off by the fox. While fuming with anger and looking at the scene, Grace came out from under a water butt, where the fox had last been seen digging.
FOXES ARE A MENACE TO PETS AND SMALL CHILDREN.
